A message from our Head teacher

Welcome to our website and to our wonderful school!  Gelliswick is a new school in a new state of the art building which opened in January 2018.  Over 500 pupils learn at Gelliswick School in Hakin and Hubberston on the outskirts of Milford Haven.

We are proud to try each day to ‘live’ our school values that were determined by the children and adults of the school and in our community.  We know that to support our pupils to succeed and excel, we must work as a whole school community. We work in partnership with pupils, parents and the community, and we are committed to the safeguarding and wellbeing of children.  We have an open door policy and there is always someone available for you to speak to.    We believe that everyone can learn and achieve with hard work, determination, and of course the right help from the people around us.

In RVE this term, Parrog Class are going to be thinking about the different roles they take in life, how important it is to show respect to all living things and also increasing their understanding of the beliefs of others. Today we had to pass a ball of wool around the class saying something good they know about that person as they passed the ball to them. It was lots of fun and lovely to hear some super comments.

What Makes Wales Special? Discovering the Wonders of Wales! As part of our big question, "What makes Wales special?", Dosbarth Nolton recently took a fascinating trip to Milford Marina to explore one of Wales' most important industries – fishing! Our visit to the local fishmongers was an eye-opening experience. We learned which fish are caught in Welsh waters, even just off Gelliswick, how they are prepared, and even discovered that some customers travel from as far away as Bristol to buy this fresh, local produce. Jan, our guide, was incredibly knowledgeable and kind, answering all our questions and showing us the wide variety of fish available. This trip linked perfectly to the Curriculum for Wales, helping us develop our understanding of local culture and economy, sustainability, and where our food comes from. It also supported our Expressive Arts skills as we took time to sketch the beautiful boats, interesting buildings, and fishing equipment around the marina in pairs. We were amazed by the sights and sounds of Milford Marina – from colourful houses overlooking the water to stacks of lobster pots and nets ready for the next catch. It was a wonderful opportunity to appreciate the unique character of our Welsh coastline and the hardworking people who make it special. Thank you to everyone who helped make this visit possible – and especially to Jan for sharing such fascinating insights into the world of Welsh seafood!

In amser dewis this week, Newgale learners chose independent learning tasks such as dotting around a gingerbread man in paint to develop hand eye coordination, making a gingerbread man with play dough to build hand muscle strength and using masks and small world characters in the role play to reenact the story of the gingerbread man. I've been so pleased with how excited everybody has been to work on their amser dewis learning tasks. Lots more to come!
