A message from our Head teacher

Welcome to our website and to our wonderful school!  Gelliswick is a new school in a new state of the art building which opened in January 2018.  Over 500 pupils learn at Gelliswick School in Hakin and Hubberston on the outskirts of Milford Haven.

We are proud to try each day to ‘live’ our school values that were determined by the children and adults of the school and in our community.  We know that to support our pupils to succeed and excel, we must work as a whole school community. We work in partnership with pupils, parents and the community, and we are committed to the safeguarding and wellbeing of children.  We have an open door policy and there is always someone available for you to speak to.    We believe that everyone can learn and achieve with hard work, determination, and of course the right help from the people around us.

Jam Sandwich Instructions! Today, In Pwllgwaelod, the children wrote a set of instructions explaining how to make a jam sandwich. We then followed their instructions to make our sandwiches and quickly realised that we needed to be much more specific for the reader to be successful! We discussed the importance of including an ingredients list and a clear method, using numbered steps, time connectives, and precise, clear instructions. The children then redrafted and improved their work, thinking carefully about how to make their instructions easy for everyone to follow.

This term, In Pwllgwaelod, the children have begun exploring our big question "How can we heal the planet?" by looking closely at images of rubbish and discussing what happens to it if we don't dispose of it responsibly. Through careful observation and thoughtful discussion, the children shared powerful ideas about the impact waste can have on our environment and on living things. We then explored how small actions can make a big difference, focusing on the four key ideas: Reduce – using less and thinking carefully before we throw things away Reuse – finding new ways to use items instead of binning them Recycle – sorting waste so materials can be made into something new Repair – fixing broken items rather than replacing them

What an exciting first day back in Dosbarth Tenby! When we arrived in class, we discovered a mysterious parcel... but it was locked! Luckily, there was a poem filled with clues for us to solve. We worked together to follow the clues, which led us all the way to Mrs Prevel's officewhere a buzzy bee was guarding the key! Once we unlocked the parcel, we found a fantastic book called If Only... inside. The children were thrilled to discover it was full of interesting minibeasts, which we're very excited to learn more about this term! What a brilliant start to our new topic!
