DUETS

DUETS is about addressing fundamental gaps in provision for dance opportunities in Wales. Its goal is to reach out, to engage with people and families, particularly those living in poverty and low socio-economic areas in Wales and diverse/marginalized groups, and to support people to access dance, regardless of background, finances, race, belief, ability, and gender/orientation.

Dream - Ballet Cymru

Gelliswick Duet Scholars perform at the Torch Theatre alongside Ballet Cymru

Our amazing pupils performed a curtain raiser at the Torch theatre on Saturday 2nd July 2022, supported by their families, friends, school staff and our new Duets Scholars from Year 3 and 4.  Their performance was followed by the Ballet Cymru company performance of 'Dream' based on Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream.  They gave a magical and professional performance. A huge thank you to Louise of Ballet Cymru and the Duet's dance teacher, Freya for supporting them in this wonderful experience!

Gelliswick Duet Scholars dance with Ballet Cymru's professional dancers

As if their weekly dance lessons and theatre performances weren't already enough, our amazing scholars had the opportunity to work with the company dancers to compose and perform their own piece.  The children absolutely loved getting to work with these professional dancers, who they watched perform in Theatre Ffwrnes!

Giselle - Ballet Cymru

Gelliswick Duet Scholars perform at Theatre Ffwrnes alongside Ballet Cymru

Our talented scholars took to the stage for their very first performance at Theatre Ffwrnes, Llanelli on Tuesday 30th November 2021, performing a curtain raiser for Ballet Cymru's performance of 'Giselle'.  The children spent time getting to know the story of Giselle as an inspiration for their performance and performed spectacularly, supported by their families and school staff.  After their performance, they were able to watch the professional dancers in their performance.  A memorable evening on so many levels! We are delighted that our learners are able to work with a company that values, celebrates and champions diversity, inclusion and equity, just as we do.
