Reading Buddies

Year 5 and 6 learners applied to be a reading buddy.

They had to explain why they would be effective, independent reading buddies. They chose which year group to work with. Children now follow a weekly rota to visit their year group and have specific, targeted children to read with. They liaise with class teachers and complete weekly recording sheets to show their progress. There are around 60 Year 5 and 6 reading buddies, who support reading with lower age learners throughout the school, from Nursery upwards.  They read every Friday at 12.30pm and use incentives and reading strategies to help their buddy develop their reading. The children have a target of achieving 30 sessions over the school year.
